Raphael Volunteer Jamie

In November I had the pleasure of being back at Raphael for my thirteenth year volunteering.

This time I was given the task of helping to write the progress reports for the sponsors which was a fun and an interesting challenge. It meant I was able to work closely with another volunteer, interview staff and residents all over the campus and take photos of all of them.

Having previously worked for the high profile UK portrait photographer Rankin, I picked up tips over the years; how to capture an image and how to make the subject comfortable. This skill, I did not even know I had, has been invaluable with the children and various projects I have been involved in over the years. It has been a great way to get to know everyone and get involved in so many extraordinary lives.

Raphael has progressed considerably in my time there and is running very smoothly with Priyo Lall at the helm, Sunita Garware Chair of the Governing Council and a host of mainly women teaching staff.

I am always made to feel very welcome and the love and kindness from the residents and staff is overwhelming at times.

I could not recommend volunteering at Raphael more highly as it really is such a rewarding experience and one I keep going back to.

I am already planning for November 2025 and possibly a flying visit for Founder’s Day in April.
