Klibur Domin Dental Clinic

I’m excited to share some of the wonderful progress made since 2018 and the incredible impact that the Klibur Domin Dental Clinic (KDDC) has had on the community.

KDDC is built on the strength of teamwork and unwavering support.

Klibur Domin (KD) provides essential healthcare to the community. The success is all thanks to the collaboration of dedicated local workers, volunteers and generous donors who make it possible.

The KD Managing Director, Joaquim Soares, and KD Assistant Manager, Brigida de Aranjo, are always there to help out with the logistics.

KDDC clinical team, led by Dr Jenifer Ximenes, Efi Santos, and Maria Nero consistently delivers high quality care.  The team have taken exciting steps forward undertaking a formal Radiographic Training Course  in August 2024 providing much needed rare x-ray capabilities.  That same month, a new,  larger compressor was installed. In March 2025 two new dental units were commissioned replacing older, faulty equipment., Additionally, the team actively conducts dental health education and preventative programs in nearby schools, extending their reach into the community.

Dental4Windows software was donated and installed in February 2023. This has made the patient record-keeping  more modern and efficient.

Klibur Domin is also committed to ongoing education. During a visit in March 2025, Dr John Denton and I provided timely training and updates for the Dental Team on oral cancer detection and examinations.  This is particularly crucial in Timor-Leste where betel nut chewing is a social custom that can lead to severe oral health issues, including oral cancer.

John and I are always there to give guidance and support. When we are not there in person the KDDC team often reach out to us via WhatsApp.

Maintaining complex dental equipment in a challenging environment is an ongoing priority. The expertise of dental technicians, like Stephen Hodgkin (ACT), provide invaluable support with remote assistance and an onsite visit in to KDDC in June 2025.

Great progress has been made, but there is still the need for financial support and volunteers to keep everything running smoothly and well maintained.

The KDDC program embodies a commitment to enhancing oral health and improving lives in Timor-Leste.
