The students from Tenison Woods College in Mount Gambier, SA presented Rory McEwen, RCA Board President, with a cheque for $1000 to be spent on computers for students at Uma Garton at Klibur Domin and Saint Francis Convent School in Tibar.
The funds were immediately transferred to Klibur Domin, enabling RCA representative and volunteer, John Kirby, to acquire three re-furbished computers and present them to the intended recipients.
Tenison Woods College regularly participates in an immersion program for their students to go to Timor-Leste in July each year, apart from the last three due to COVID.
As the money raised for an anticipated trip this year could not be delivered, Senior Teacher, Bernadette Fisher, was aware of the need for technology resources for the Uma Garton students and suggested the money raised be directed there and also to the female boarding students at Saint Francis Convent School.
With the help of fellow volunteer and Rotarian, Andrew Seabrook, from Casterton, a great working relationship was established with the local family-owned technology firm Inovar4.
They provided three re-furbished laptop computers at cost. The students are most appreciative of their newly acquired computers and hope to develop a digital relationship with the Tenison Woods College students.
