In late February, Dr John Denton and I travelled to Klibur Domin (KD) for a week filled with connection, learning and renewed purpose.
Much needed dental supplies were delivered, including local anaesthetic, which remains difficult to access, but is critical for urgent care. These supplies were made possible through the generosity of donors and the commitment of volunteers who source, fund and transport essential items. Time was also spent supporting another local clinic facing similar shortages, reinforcing the importance of strong local partnerships.
A major highlight of the visit was working alongside the KD leadership team. Over four interactive sessions, Dr John and I facilitated a foundational leadership program covering leadership principles, delegation and trust, communication and feedback, and individual leadership journeys. Participants came from across the organisation, including admin, finance, dental, nursing, TB programs and services. Delivered in both English and Tetum, the sessions were lively, practical and deeply engaging. Everyone leaned into discussion, stepped outside their comfort zones, and embraced the opportunity to learn together.
Alongside the training, time was spent meeting with Snr Joaquim Soares to reflect on organisational progress and strengthen relationships, reinforcing a shared commitment to KD’s mission and the importance of long term donor and volunteer support.
Despite the challenges of working in a resource limited environment, the visit was overwhelmingly positive. The KD team’s passion and resilience continue to inspire and strengthen the impact of their work far beyond the walls of Klibur Domin.
